Sandra Zebra

Thursday, December 25th, 2008

Sandra the Zebra one day while grassing in the Sahara, looked around and saw that she was like all the other Zebras, black and white. How boring she thought, not much chance to be different in this crowd. She thought little more about it until later that day after the rain she saw the most beautiful rainbow, and she imagined what it would be like to be painted with so many colors. Vanishing Dreams

Saturday, December 20th, 2008

Take a look around, and you can see dreams in the yards of people. It may appear as an old car that was purchased with the vision of someday restoring it and driving down the coast. In this picture we see a sailboat sitting along side a barn. The dream was to sail it around the world, but life can put those dreams on hold and as time passes they start too vanish. Also notice that the season is fall and the sun is setting by the long shadows.

I have had my dreams displayed in my backyard. In fact, two boats sit out there now that will never see water under my work. Some dreams are lived and others are not. It’s not a lack of vision or ambition that fades one’s dreams, but life itself. We all have a list of what we would like to do, and then there is that list of what we need to do.

It’s ok! We are not just here to live a dream, but to be part of life that is far more significant than any one dream.

Thanks for looking and your comments. Painted on a ¼ sheet of CP140 with W&N paint.

The Blue Bicycle

Sunday, December 14th, 2008

This 8×10 inch watercolor on #140 cold press was inspired by a photo I took in New Orleans a few years ago. I used the “direct” method where pigment is used straight out of the tube with little water to get the saturated  colors.  I like the abstract “feel” of this painting. -Ken-

Mountain Lake

Wednesday, December 10th, 2008

Here’s one of my first paintings that I painted before taking classes

Winter Lake

Monday, December 8th, 2008

First attempt in doing a snow scence

Lake Clark

Monday, December 8th, 2008

Just started to paint and let the color tell me what it was going to be. This one ended up being a lake.

Young Girl

Monday, December 8th, 2008

This was my first portraiture I did in class. I used a 3B Pencil to draw her in. When I started to paint the lead from the pencil started to dissolve into the paint, giving it a dirty look. Lesson learned.

Uncle Sam

Painted this on election night.

Old Friends

Saturday, December 6th, 2008

I call this one “old friends” because it is symbolic to some older friends sitting around discussing pass times. Could you imagine what they might be talking about? Maybe that trip across the country, or their favorite filling station. As I grow older, I think of my old friends. Some I have kept in contact with and others drifted away. Some memories are sweat and others are less, but it seams with time we like to pull up the fine ones and put them on top. So maybe today we should call an old friend and say “do you remember when?” [Painted on Archs Cp140 1/2 Sheet with W&N paint]   Thanks for looking and your comments.
