war_dog_09small2“War Dog” is a mixed media (watercolor and guache) painting that I did for a friend, based upon his photograph taken at the Gillespie Air Show this June.   I used guache for the smoke trailing from the SNJ-5 “War Dog” .  It was done on 9×12 inch hot press, #140 lb paper.  -Ken-

9 x 12 inch Hot Press #140.  This painting was inspired by a photograph taken at the end of 2008. Mesa Grande is a valley a few miles North of Santa Ysabel. I did a few different color washes to set the background.  The curving dirt road and the smaller tree branches were done with a rigger brush.  A fun scene to paint.  -Ken-

The Blue Bicycle

Sunday, December 14th, 2008

This 8×10 inch watercolor on #140 cold press was inspired by a photo I took in New Orleans a few years ago. I used the “direct” method where pigment is used straight out of the tube with little water to get the saturated  colors.  I like the abstract “feel” of this painting. -Ken-
